The annual Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats basketball awards banquet honoring coach Kelvin Cochran’s Lady Cats and coach Rickey Maccullough’s Bearcats will be this Thursday, April 21 at 6 p.m. at the school cafeteria. Banquet admission will be $6.00.

The Lady Cats advanced to the elite eight round of the State Class AAAA Tournament, before being edged 47-38 by the Wayne County High School Lady Yellow Jackets. The Lady Cats were led throughout the season by their six seniors.

“Senior forwards Asia Gordon, Alexis Gaines, Carolyn Jackson and Rickia Hughes always gave 100 percent efforts along with senior guards Alexis Russ and Tianna Miller,” coach Cochran said. “They always played hard on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.”

A pair of sophomores, forward Nadia Marshall and Tytianna Roseborough, were first and second team All-Region 1-AAAA selections respectively. Marshall averaged 15.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals a game and Roseborough averaged 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds a game.

Coach Maccullough’s Bearcats were also led by a strong group of All-Region 1-AAAA players.

“We had a good season but we just fell a little short,” the Bearcats’ head coach said. “When center Trevon Shaw and forward Myles Thomas were blocking out and rebounding we could dominate down low and when Tyree Crump was on from three point range he could some times be almost unstoppable I could not be prouder of our entire team.”

Crump, who was named first team Al-Region 1-AAAA, averaged team high 22.4 points a game. Seniors Shaw and Thomas were named second team All-Region 1-AAAA. Shaw averaged 10.8 points and 7.2 rebounds a game and Thomas averaged 7.2 points and four rebounds a game.

Devontae Jones, who was named honorable mention All- Region 1-AAAA, averaged 11.1 points a game.
