Women age 40 and above who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months and who have a primary care physician are eligible to receive a free, convenient mammogram screening thanks to the BelkGives on the Go Mobile Mammography Center.

The 39-foot-long, state of the art screening center on wheels, will be at the Bainbridge Mall Belk store Tuesday, April 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

This is a service of Belk, the nation’s largest privately operated department store in partnership with Charlotte, N.C. Radiology. It is bringing convenient, digital screening and awareness to all Belk markets in 80 stores throughout the Southeastern United States.

Since its inception in 2013, the unit has performed more than 7,400 mammograms that resulted in 30 cancer diagnoses.

Providing this service has taken on a special, personal meaning for Threasa Hall, manager of the Bainbridge Belk. She is a breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 2011. “I had neglected having my mammograms for two years and then I realized I needed to get it done. It was important to me to be healthy. If you catch breast cancer early enough the prognosis is good. Fortunately, I caught it early enough.” Now her mother-in-law, Linda Hall is receiving treatment for the same disease. “She too caught it early enough and her prognosis is very good,” explained Threasa, who said she can’t stress enough how important it is to have the examination done yearly.

The last time the mammogram mobile unit came to Bainbridge Belk was in 2014. “We had such a good success that we ran out of appointments, “ recalls Hall. She expects the same interest this year.

All exams are performed by Charlotte Radiology’s licensed, female mammography technologists and interpreted by a board-certified radiologist. Confidential results will be sent to the patient and her primary care physician.

After receiving the mammogram, women are invited to visit the intimate apparel area of Belk to receive a complimentary bra fitting.
