Former Bearcat LaRae Davis is a member of the 2016 Hall of Fame class

Former Bainbridge High School Bearcat shooting guard LaRae Davis, who will be inducted into the Decatur County Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 19, at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria, scored over 2100 career points and left after graduating in 1982 as one of the most prolific scorers in Bearcat history.

Davis scored in double figures in 94 of 97 career games. He had 60 games with more than 20 points, 20 games with more than 30 points and four games with more than 40 points.

The soon to be Decatur County sports hall of famer left with a career game average of 22.6 points per game over 97 games from the fall of 1978 to the spring of 1982. During the 1978-79 season he averaged 21.4 points a game and was the first freshman to be named to the All-Region team.

During the 1979-1980 season Davis was honorable mention 1-AAAA All-Region. In the 1980-81 season Davis was first team 1-AAAA All-Region and second team All-State by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

During the 1981-82 season Davis averaged 22.2 points a game and was Region player of the year. He was also named first team AAAA All-State by the Atlanta Journal Constitution. That season the late Coach Charles Bess, a fellow 2016 Decatur County Sports Hall of Fame inductee, led the Bearcats. They went 22-8, won the Region championship and advanced to the state quarterfinals.

Davis held the varsity school record for the Bearcats until last season with 50 points in a game verses Westover in 1980. He went 24 of 36 from the field and was two for two from the free throw line.

From 1982 to 1984 Davis was a member of the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders basketball team. At Middle Tennessee State, Davis played in 51 games, scored 584 points, averaged 11.5 points a game and had had 143 assists and 44 steals.

Davis transferred to Florida State University where he played in 55 games from 1985-87. He scored 734 points as a Seminoles while averaging 13.3 points a game and had 188 career assists.

Tickets for the Hall of Fame banquet, which will be Saturday, March 19 at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria, are $20.00 and may be purchased at Bainbridge High School, Grace Christian Academy and Parker Paints. There will be a meet and great session at 6 p.m. and the banquet will begin at 7 p.m.
