BHS track teams start season with meet in Tallahassee

Coach Larry Cosby’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats and coach Tandria Phillips’ Bainbridge High School Lady Cats track teams tuned up for this Saturday’s annual Doctor Larry Clark Invitational Meet at the Bainbridge High School track with strong opening performances last Saturday at the Jesse Forbes Invitational Meet.

The Bearcats finished a strong fifth in a 26-team field and the Lady Cats 12th.

Jaylyn Scott scored points in two races for the Bearcat when he finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.94 seconds and seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.72. Danbrell Harris finished fourth in both the 300 and 110 hurdles. In the 300 hurdles he crossed the finish line in 40.95 seconds and in the110 hurdles he finished with a time of 15.17.

Also contributing to the Bearcats strong finish in Tallahassee was Poncherella Leonard, who was second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes 32.59 seconds and third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:00.80.

Bearcat Zyron McGee was third in the triple jump with a jump of 41-10 feet and sixth in the high jump with a time of with a leap of 5-8. Jean Jeanty was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-2. The Bearcats 4×400 relay team of Harrell, Jeremiah Hodge, Scott and Lorenzo Mitchell was sixth in a time of 3:34.15.

The Lady Cats 4×100 relay team of Tamia Register, Tyaisha Gant, Makayla Cooper and Cyan Gant finished fourth in a time of 52.52 and their 4×400 meter team of Register, Gant, Cooper and Amaia Taylor finished sixth with a time of 4:28.21.
