Bainbridge State College’s Honors Program is hosting the second annual Film Discussion Series beginning Monday, Feb. 15. The event is free and open to the public.

All films will be screened in Room 961 at 4 p.m., with a discussion about the film at 6 p.m. in Room 951, both upstairs in the Student Wellness Center. During the discussions, films will be discussed as an art form with various BSC professors. These films serve to represent the times in which the movies were made. The series will also allow for discussions on many other lines of intellectual inquiry.

This year’s series will explore both French and Italian films.

For example, Dr. Betty LaFace and her colleague, Dr. Marina von Hirsch, will discuss the popular Johnny Depp film, Chocolat in March. As LaFace described, the movie explores key messages that relate to its audience.

“The most tempting of all sweets—chocolate—becomes the key weapon in a battle of sensual pleasure versus disciplined self-denial in this comedy,” the professor explained. “It’s important to realize that temptation, good and evil are the same everywhere in the world, but overwhelming goodness in people wins in the end. The audience of film viewer will leave the theater with renewed hope and inspiration for life in today’s complicated world.”

The series will kick off with The Bicycle Thief. Again, the screening begins at 4 p.m., with a discussion led by Dr. Michael Kirkland at 6 p.m., on Feb. 15.

The Honors Program Spring Film Series is scheduled as follow:

• Monday, Feb. 15- The Bicycle Thief led by Dr. Michael Kirkland

• Monday, March 21- Chocolat led by Dr. Betty LaFace & Dr. Marina von Hirsch

• Monday, April 18- Cinema Paradiso led by Dr. Patrick Smith
