Carlton Guy Barber, 84, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Barber was born June 30, 1931 in Bainbridge, the son of James Sanford Barber and Madge Burns Barber. He retired from the United States Army in 1971 after twenty years of distinguished service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Barber served in many capacities around the world, his last appointment was the US Army-Automotive Command in Warren, Mich.

After returning to Bainbridge, Guy worked with Southwest Georgia Oil where he spent the rest of his career along with judging, coaching, and serving as Master of Ceremonies at many beauty pageants in the tri-state area. A staunch Republican, he was a poll-watcher who rarely missed an election and was quick to blow the whistle on any infraction. Guy always had a joke or a story, loved the Florida State Seminoles, and enjoyed playing poker with the Tuesday night group.

Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Flora Archer Barber; his son and daughter, Carl and his wife, Billie, of Bainbridge and Micki Sanders and her husband, Kent, of Buhl, Idaho; his granddaughters, Misty Barber of Tucker, Ga., and Micki Sievers of Virginia Beach, Va.; his son-in-law, Bill Sievers of Virginia Beach; his siblings, Jerry Barber and his companion, Betty Garrow, of California and Beverly Whaley and her husband, Charles, of Charlotte, NC; and his sister-in-law, Dot Barber of Niceville, Fla..

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Barber Sievers; and his brother, Bill Barber.
