Jones to represent region on Georgia Farm Bureau Young Farmer Committee

Decatur County Farm Bureau Young Farmer Chairperson Jan Jones is serving on the 2016 Georgia Farm Bureau Young Farmer Committee.

The committee oversees GFB’s young farmer activities, including the GFB Young Farmer Leadership Conference on Jekyll Island in July, the GFB Young Farmer Discussion Meet, Achievement Award and Excellence in Agriculture competitive events, the Picture Georgia in Agriculture Photo Contest and the Harvest For All Campaign.

This is the first year of a two-year term on the GFB Young Farmer Committee for Jones.

Jones farms with her father Jerry in Climax, raising cotton, corn, peanuts and commercial beef cattle on a total of 1,000 acres.

On the committee, Jones will represent the GFB 9th District, which includes Baker, Brooks, Calhoun, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Thomas, Tift and Worth counties.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the state’s largest general farm organization and has 158 county offices. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, state and national activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. GFB also has 20 agricultural commodity advisory committees that give the organization input on issues pertinent to the major crops and livestock grown in Georgia.
