After conversations on how to better work together, the Decatur County Board of Commissioners and Bainbridge City Council are taking a positive step together, symbolized by a Decatur County fire truck being stationed at the West Bainbridge station.

Commissioners and members of the city council met for a ceremony Friday morning to welcome the new truck, which will be operated by two Decatur County firemen.

“I think this morning is a testimony to the dedication of the commissioners and the city council to really work together and bring a great, great benefit to not just the citizens of Bainbridge, but Decatur County,” Decatur County Commission Chairman Dennis Brinson said. “It’s going to do a lot of benefit, especially in this area.”

Decatur County administrator Alan Thomas said this fire truck will help decrease response time in West Bainbridge and offer additional assistance to vehicle wrecks, fires and other accidents in that area.

“This shows what can happen when you get folks that are committed to working together, together, and serving the citizens first,” Bainbridge City Manager Chris Hobby said.

Thomas said this was the first of many projects in the pipeline that will see Decatur County and the City of Bainbridge working together to make the quality of life better for the residents of Bainbridge and Decatur County.

I think we will have more of this to come, I hope,” Bainbridge Mayor Edward Reynolds said. “I appreciate the spirit of cooperation that is going on right now.”
