Robert Earl Hawkins

Robert Earl Hawkins, age 79, passed away Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.

Funeral services for Mr. Hawkins will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, with Rev. Richard Trawick, Rev. John Werner, Rev. Lynn Hurley, and Rev. Billy Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow in Friendship Memorial Gardens with Louette Odom, Gabriel Wilson, Ryan Posey, Zack Faircloth, Steve Baker, and Steve Griffin serving as active casketbearers.  Honorary casketbearers will be Butch Godby, Greg Houston, Jerry Coble, Tracy Scarborough, Tim Bowen, and Steve Shores.  Visitation will be held immediately prior to the service from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hawkins was born in Donalsonville on July 5, 1936 to Thomas Jackson Hawkins and  Beatrice Brookins Hawkins.  He was a builder, having owned and operated Hawkins and Sons Construction Company for many years.  Mr. Hawkins was a member of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church, an avid fisherman and hunter.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Georgianne Hawkins of Donalsonville; four sons, Ray Hawkins, Jay Hawkins, Mitch Hawkins and his wife Candy, and Mark Hawkins and his wife Rhonda all of Donalsonville; a daughter, Robyn Kirkland and her husband Todd of Donalsonville; a sister, Louise Mims of Donalsonville; and a brother, Eugene Hawkins and his wife LaVerne of Albany, Ga.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jackson Hawkins and Beatrice Brookins Hawkins, and a brother, Walton Hawkins.
