James Marvin Jones, 78, of Bainbridge; formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, Valdosta, Georgia, and Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley officiating. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery in Adel, Georgia with Elder Thad Marshall officiating. Active pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Freddie Mikell, Steven Olds, Jacob McIntosh, Jonathan McIntosh and Geoffrey Mikell.

Mr. Jones was born April 23, 1936 in Adel, Ga., the son of Marley Edwin Jones and Virginia Lee Waters Jones. He was a graduate of Valdosta High School, Class of 1954, and was a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow and a Chartered Life Underwriter. Mr. Jones served in the Georgia National Guard and retired after 42 years as the district manager for Independent Life Insurance Company. He taught continuing education insurance at Bainbridge College for 10 additional years. Mr. Jones was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, choir member, and Sunday School Director. He was a member of the Couples Sunday School Class and served on the insurance and finance committees. He served his community with his involvement in the Lions Club, Bainbridge Life Underwriters Association, Toastmasters, and Civitan.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Carolyn Griffis Jones of Bainbridge; his daughters, Sharon R. Jones Chase and her husband, Danny, of Maryville, Tenn. and Lisa G. Jones Spencer and her husband, Michael, of Gaffney, S.C.; his brother, David Lee Jones and his wife, Jerri, of Valdosta; his sister, Linda Jones Jarrell and her husband, Ron, of Ft. White, Fla.; his grandchildren, Matthew W. McIntosh, Jacob J. McIntosh, Jonathan L. McIntosh, Natalie J. Martin and her husband, Brandon, and Sarah A. Spencer; and his great-grandsons, Conner James McIntosh, and James Titus Mart
