Lady Cats on road to state tourney, crush Lady Rams

The Lady Cats punched their ticket to the State Class AAAA Tournament with a 71-17 Tuesday Region 1-AAAA Tournament victory over the Worth County High School Lady Rams at the Americus-Sumter County High School Gymnasium.
Patra Parris, who had a game-high 18 points, was one of three Lady Cats in double figures. Alexandria Carter and Nadia Marshall put in 12 apiece.
The Lady Cats led 16-5 at the end of the first quarter. They shut out the Lady Rams 12-0 in the second quarter to build their lead to 28-5 at half time. They led 22-8 after three quarters.
On Thursday, the Lady Cats lost 54-40 to Albany’s Monroe High School Lady Tornadoes at the Albany High School Gymnasium.
During the Worth County and Monroe games, Lady Cat Patra Parris and Alexandra Carter went over the 1,000-point marks for their careers. Parris has scored 1,001 points and Carter has scored one thousand and eight points.
Rounding out the Lady Cats scoring column Tuesday were Nadia Marshall with 12, Asia Gordon with nine, Beonka Madge with eight, Alexis Russ with seven, Asia Gordon with four, Rakia Hughes with two, and Tameria Levens with one.
In Thursday’s loss to the Lady Tornadoes, the Lady Cats were led by Beonka Madge with 13, Alexandria Carter with 11 and Patra Parris with eight.
Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said Parris and Carter are two of his senior leaders and he could not be happier for them going over the 1,000-point plateau.
The Lady Cats returned to action Friday to take on Albany’s Westover High School Lady Patriots at 4 p.m. at the Albany High School Gymnasium.
