Decatur County Prison inmate Daniel Lozano, 22, was captured near the Earle May Boat Basin early this afternoon after escaping during work detail on Mills Road.

Lozano ran into nearby woods after attempting to start a fight with another inmate, according to DCP warden Elijah McCoy.

He then stole a truck parked at a residence on Sharber Road and drove southwest toward Bainbridge.

Deputy warden Gordon Screen, Jr. chased Lozano down East River Road. Screen was eventually joined by Bainbridge Public Safety, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol.

GSP officers were able to stop Lozano after performing two pit maneuvers.

“We have a different breed of inmate now,” McCoy said. “They are more violent and take more chances. If you see these guys do something, don’t hesitate to call 911.”

Lozano was returned to custody after capture. Nobody was injured during the chase.
