It was the first Region 1-AAAA loss of the season for the Lady Cats. The Lady Yellow Jackets scored their two runs on a double and a sacrifice fly.

Lady Cats starting right-hander Brooke Bates struck out nine batters, allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter while going all seven innings Tuesday.

“Brooke Bates mixed up her pitches well and they all had a lot of movement,” Lady Cats coach Amy Thomas said. “She is a great competitor. She really did her job well in the pitching circle.”

Catcher Morgan Cannon had a big offensive game for the Lady Cats. She went 2-for-3 with two singles.

Bates was equally effective in getting the win Thursday against Berrien County. She struck out five, gave up six hits and did not walk a batter.

The lady Cats gave up two runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 2-0. First baseman Tori Sprenkle led off the inning with a single and stole second. Right fielder Zakiya Callaway got a run home with a ground.

Trailing 3-1, going to the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Rebels cut it to 3-2 on a solo home run by pinch hitter Tierra Folsom.

The Lady Cats will return to action Tuesday when they host the Albany High School Lady Indians in a Region 1AAAA game at the Lady Cats Diamond.
