GCA volleyball tallies two wins this week

Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball team improved their record to 3-0 with a 3-1 Tuesday victory over the Sherwood Christian Academy Lady Eagles in Albany and a 3-0 home victory over the Robert F. Munroe School Lady Bobcats Thursday at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Cougars will return to action Friday, September 5 when they host Memorial Day School of Savannah in their first Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 2 game.

In their 3-1 win over Sherwood Christian the Lady Cougars lost the first set 15-25, won the second set 25-19, won the third set 27-25 and won the fourth set 25-18.

Leading the way against Sherwood Christian were Kelsey Harrell 14 kills, and Lindsey Duke with a 100 percent 13 of 13 serving percentage and Perra Harrell with a 93 percent 13 of 14 serving percentage.

Perra Harrell had six digs and Kelsey Harrell had five digs  and four ace serves, Kaitlyn Holcombe had five blocks and Lindsey Duke had 28 assists.

Coach Harrell said that he was very pleased with his team’s effort against Sherwood Christian pointing out that they stayed calm and showed good poise to battle back and win three straight sets after losing the first set.

On Thursday against the Lady Bobcats  the Lady Cats won the first set 25-23, won the second set 25-22 and won the third set 26-24.  They were led by Kelsey Harrell with 15 kills and four ace and serves, Lindsey Duke with a 100 percent 12 of 12 serving percentage, and 23 assists, and Sarah Castoro with a 100 percent 11 of 11 serving percentage and six digs.

Coach Harrell liked his teams comeback ability against thee Lady Bobcats. He pointed out that they remained focused coming from behind to win the second and third sets.
