I’ve been waiting for this week since January, took long enough

The wait is over—football is finally here.

This week we see the Bainbridge Bearcats travel to Early Co. for a tough season opener and college football gets underway, officially starting with Texas A&M taking on South Carolina. It’s going to be a good show, boys and girls, so get on your feet and rally the troops. My favorite time of year is here.

I thought the Bearcats looked pretty sharp last Friday against Pelham. We certainly have a strong running game with impressive running backs like Tramaine McCray and Dalvin Spivie. Each scored a touchdown against the Hornets, and a third was scored by freshman Dameon Peirce. The offensive line is big and created some good holes.

The defensive line was ferocious and aggressive, clogging up the trenches and shutting down Pelham’s run game right from the get-go.

As for the Bobcats Friday, I hope we cream them. The Bearcats need a solid win against a worthy opponent to really kick this season off with a bang. A new region means new opportunities to set the bar high for Bainbridge football. If the Bearcats can get in there, show them whose boss and leave with a win, I think the momentum we’ll carry to Cairo the next week will be unstoppable.

Similar to the Bearcats, the Georgia Bulldogs have a tough season opener against Clemson in Athens. I’ll be heading up to my hometown Saturday morning to tailgate with old friends and hopefully watch a win in Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs also need this season opening victory to give them confidence and momentum.

I feel like the Dawgs may be feeling a little fragile after last season, despite having plenty of strong players returning on both sides of the ball. A “W” should alleviate any doubts Georgia has and carry the team to Columbia, South Carolina, the next week with their chins held high.

I’ll also be going to that game, Lord help me.
