A Decatur County man was found deceased by Decatur County deputies late Tuesday night at Sandy Acres Trailer Park located on Whigham Dairy Road.

Christopher Strickland, 31, was lying outside a trailer with a gunshot wound in the chest when deputies arrived on the scene. He was immediately announced deceased and his remains were transferred to the Decatur County Deputy Coroner for an autopsy.

According to an incident report from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found two other males at the scene. Strickland’s brother, Joshua, 25, was found with a gun in his hand. Leroy Wimberly, 51, was suffering from a gunshot wound and breathing shallowly.

“With what we have, we are 100 percent sure that nobody is on the loose,” Griffin said. “These are the three people involved.”

Deputies interviewed witnesses and determined a fight had broken out between the three residents. Wimberly had left the fight, returned with a pistol and shot Strickland. Joshua retaliated and shot Wimberly with the same weapon. Wimberly was transferred to the Tallahassee Regional Medical Center and is pending further interviews.

“Things are lining up,” Decatur County investigator Gale Bowyer said. “We’re combining what witnesses tell us and combining what the crime scene says to us. That’s how we’re trying to piece things together. We want to make sure we get everything else as right as we can.”

UPDATE July 31, 10:18 a.m.: Wimberly has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Johshua Strickland has been released from investigative custody and is not currently facing charges. The investigation is ongoing.
