The Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Barracudas swim team turned in a number of strong performances at last Friday and Saturday’s Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Swim Meet in Tifton.
In the 11 and 12-year-old girls division, the relay team of Emily Sullivan, Masey Tabb, Brooklyn Willis and Sandy Baker finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Individually Sandy Baker finished seventh in the 100-yard individual medley and 10th in the 50-yard butterfly, and Masey Tabb finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the nine and 10-year-old boys division Dax Willis finished eighth in the 100-yard individual medley and the 25 yard breast stroke. In the 13 and 14-year-old boys division Thad Whitaker finished 12th in the 100- yard freestyle.
YMCA aquatics coordinator Jennefer Clements, who coaches the Barracudas with coach Becki Miller, said she could not be prouder of the team’s performance at the state meet.
“I am very proud of all of our swimmers,” she said. “They not only performed well at the state meet, they also performed well at the district meet and other meets throughout the season.”
They are all looking forward to competing this Saturday in the Dual Between the States Florida versus Georgia Meet against the Marianna Florida Marlins this Saturday at our YMCA pool. It will get underway at 9 a.m.”
Thad Whitaker, Masey Tabb, Sandy Baker, Emily Sullivan, Paige Overman and Dax Willis all qualified for state with strong district meet performances.
“All of our swimmers have really worked hard and improved their times. They even practiced through the rain on Monday. We pulled them out of the water when the thunder and lightning started, but before that we continued to practice.”
