We’re moving in the right direction

Progress is being made.
The Mayor of Bainbridge, Edward Reynolds, has extended an invitation to the Decatur County Board of Commissioners to meet together for the first time in months. Reynolds’ email letter called for elected officials only, meaning Decatur County Administrator Gary Breedlove and Bainbridge City Manager Chris Hobby are not to be included in the meeting.
It’s about time somebody stepped up to take that first step in a positive direction. Since the start of 2014, tension has been escalating between the two entities to a point almost beyond repair. Simply sitting in a room and talking about the future can help solve a majority of the issues at hand.
In addition, Bainbridge State College President Richard Carvajal will mediate the meeting and aid in generating positive, constructive discussions.
The meeting is open to the public next Tuesday at Memorial Hospital at 5:30 p.m. However, the discussion is strictly for the elected officials of Bainbridge and Decatur County, and the public will not be able to participate. There should be no distractions so the elected officials can accomplish what they’re coming together to do: discuss the future of Bainbridge and Decatur County as a whole.
Hopefully, the meeting will help rebuild the fractured relationship that now exists between the two entities.
