The Bainbridge High School tennis teams ruled the Bill Reynolds Tennis Complex Thursday, taking home region championship trophies for both the Bearcats and the Lady Cats. The tournament, an all-day event, also featured the Hardaway Hawks, Lee County Trojans and Harris County Tigers.
The Lady cats defeated Harris County 0-3 in singles play. Taylor Greene won 0-6, 2-6, Emma Kate Smith won 1-6, 2-6 and Lynsey Waddell pulled off a win going 1-6, 2-4.
The Lady Cats also dominated the Lady Tigers in doubles, with Mallie Rollins and Stephanie Mayfield winning 3-6, 3-6 and Anna Beth Bowles and Maci Barber coming out ahead 4-6, 1-3.
The girls also swept Lee County in both singles and doubles.
Greene won 3-6, 1-6, Smith won 6-7(4), 6-4, 3-10 and Waddell won 3-6, 0-3, 0-0. For doubles, Rollins and Mayfield won 2-6, 0-6 and Bowles and Barber pulled off a 6-4, 3-5, 0-0 win.
The Bearcats won all their matches against the Hardaway Hawks. In singles Hema Hasona won 0-6, 0-6, Nour Hasona won 1-6, 1-6 and Jones Gossett won 0-6, 0-6.
In doubles, Jack Reynolds and Bennett Enfinger came out on top 1-6, 2-6 and Josh Moorhead and Grayson Graham won 0-6, 0-6.
The Bearcats also swept Harris County. In singles play, Hema Hasona won 1-6, 1-6, Nour Hason won 4-6, 0-6 and Jones Gossett won 5-7, 3-6. In doubles play, Reynolds and Enfinger pulled off a last match win, going 3-6, 6-2, 5-10. Moorhead and Graham also took it to three matches, going 6-3, 4-6, 8-10.
The Bearcats and Lady Cats play their first round of the state 5A tournament Monday, with the Lady Cats hosting Effingham County at 1 p.m. and the Bearcats hosting Richmond Hill at 2:30 p.m. All games will be played at the BHS courts.
