Funeral services for Virginia Harrison Gibbs, 86, of Whigham, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Whigham.  Elder Thad Marshall and Elder Jon Mizell will officiate.  Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Whigham. Mrs. Gibbs passed away at Suites of Woodleaf in Thomasville, on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Tavener, Justin Parker, Larry Ulmer, Trey Gibbs, Terry Parker and Wallace Chason.
Mrs. Gibbs was born on August 27, 1927, in Whigham, GA, to the late Jimmy T. Harrison and Alma Lane Harrison.  On August 4, 1946, she married Walter Cecil Gibbs, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 12, 1991.  Virginia received her master’s degree in education from Valdosta State College and she retired from the Decatur County Board of Education.  She was a member of Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Whigham, GA
Survivors include: daughters, Patsy Morris of Cairo, Donna Tavener (Jim) of Commerce, Texas; son, Cecil Gibbs, Jr. (Carolyn) of Whigham; grandchildren, Marty Ulmer (Larry) of Whigham, Amy Gintz of Leesburg, GA., Jill Mahan (Ryan) of Aberdeen, Scotland, Jeff Tavener of Commerce, Trey Gibbs (Lauren) of Whigham; great-grandchildren, Sailor Gintz of Leesburg, Walt Gibbs of Whigham; sisters, Mary Mucci (Joe) Sacramento, Calif., Bobbie Spencer (Ray) of Naples, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; sisters, Sara Logue, Wynelle “Tince” Callahan; and brother, Jimmy T. Harrison, II; and a son-in-law, Tony Morris.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Gibbs’ memory to: Gentiva Hospice, 432 E. Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819.
The family will gather at the home of Patsy Morris, 618 Rawls Road, Cairo.
Clark Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
