A strong Bainbridge High School Lady Cats second half comeback fell just short Saturday in Columbus as the Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks hung on for a 58-55 Region 1AAAAA victory.
“We got ourselves in a big hole early,” Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said.  “We were behind 24-6 at the end of the first quarter and were down 35-17 at halftime. We outscored Hardaway 20-10 in the third quarter and trailed 45-37 going to the fourth quarter. We actually took a 53-51 late lead in the game.”
The score was tied 55-55 with 46 seconds to go. Hardaway then hit a field goal and a free throw to pull out the win.
“We know we are capable of playing with anybody in the region,” Cochran said. “We just have to put four quarters together.”
Longesha Emanuel led the Lady Cats scoring attack Saturday with 13 points. Alexandria Carter and Alexus Russ added 11 points apiece.
Tyra Lacy of the Lady Golden Hawks took games scoring honors with 18 points.
The Lady Cats returned to Region 1AAAAA action Tuesday when they hosted the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets.
They will host the Harris County High School Lady Tigers from Hamilton in a 6 p.m. Region 1AAAAA game Friday.
They host the Cairo High School Syrupmakers in a 6 p.m. non-region game Saturday.
