Leighanna Cari Gail has the distinction of being the 2014 New Year’s baby born at Memorial Hospital’s Kirbo Women’s Center.
She arrived Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2:17 p.m. Amberly Close and James Gail of Bainbridge are the proud parents. Amberly is a CNA at Memorial Manor.
Amberly said she had no idea she would be having the New Year’s baby four days into the year, as she thought someone else would have had it by then. “I was very surprised when they told me,” Close said.
The slow start of New Year’s baby deliveries was a welcome break for nurses in the Kirbo Women’s Center, after a busy month in December when 33 babies were born.
Leighanna joins two big sisters Adreona Christmas and Kamora Gail, who are getting acquainted with their new baby sister.
No special gifts are given to New Year’s babies born locally, as that tradition stopped several years ago.
