Funeral services for CDR USN (Ret.) Stephan Ernest Oosterman, D.O., 60 of Flemming Island, Fla. will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at First Coast Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Edwards officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Holly Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at First Coast Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1952 in Worcester, Mass., son of the late Sidney Ernest Oosterman and the former Lois Marion Peterson. He passed away following a brief illness on Sept. 1, 2013 in his home.

He moved to Florida in July, 1985 from Lansing, Mich., and was employed by the University of Florida Health; for the past 13 years. He was retired from the US Navy following 25 years of service and his memberships include First Coast Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Julie Oosterman, survivors include his mother, Lois Marion Oosterman; four daughters, Brooke (Doug) Ross, Amy (Brian) Gardiner, Andrea (Justin) Smallwood and April (Jeremy) Blythe; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Jane) Oosterman and John (Lori) Oosterman; three sisters, Barb (Jerry) Schutte, Laura (Randy) Young and Jane (Bruce) Hager and numerous extended family and friends.

Those serving as pallbearers include: MSgt. USMC (Ret) Tommy Trivette, Michael Lehosit, MSgt. USA Res. (Ret) Gary Browning, Capt. USN Robert Sorenson, Capt. USN (Ret) Morry Kemple, Capt. USN (Ret) Peter True and Andy Coan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Coast Baptist Church, 7587 Blanding Blvd. Jacksonville, Fla. 32244; AWANA or Missions fund.

Prestwood Funeral Home of Baldwin, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.
