The funeral service for Ruby Hutto Day, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at First Christian Church with Minister Damon Edwards and Minister Haskell White officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Vada, with Paul Maxwell, Richard Maxwell, Malori Maxwell, Brent Day, Taylor Day, David Whitaker, Cody Whitaker, Brantly Whitaker, Elton Keaton, and J.C. Collins serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenda Christian, Susie Barnard, Ashley Akins, Beth Zotyka, Tracey Smith, Susan Carey, Melba Cloud, Tonya Henry, Patsy Lasseter, and Jackie Williams.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, at First Christian Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to, First Christian Church, P.O. Box 907, Bainbridge, GA 39818

Mrs. Day was born June 9, 1926 in Mitchell County, the daughter of Jessie Carl Hutto and Ellen Strickland Hutto Smith. She died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at her residence in Bainbridge.

She married Welton R. Day on Nov. 28, 1942. Mrs. Day was a member of the First Christian Church in Bainbridge, where she was involved with the Ladies Sunday School Class and active with the Ladies Circle. She was a homemaker most of her married life, however she worked as a Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital and in later years she worked at Sue’s Alley. Mrs. Day was a member of the Good Sam’s Camping Club with her husband as they always enjoyed camping and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Hutto and Ellen and Roy Smith; her husband of 64 years, Welton Day; and her granddaughter, Jamie Denise Day; her sister, Mildred Hutto Collins; and her brother-in-law, Grover Collins.

Mrs. Day is survived by her two sons, Dennis W. Day and his wife, Sharon, of Climax, and Terry Day and his wife, Joyce, of Bainbridge; her three grandchildren, Dena Day Maxwell and her husband, Paul, of Climax, Brent Day and his wife, Lori, of Leesburg, Ga. and Bridget Day Whitaker and her husband, David, of Bainbridge; her great grandchildren, Richard Maxwell, Malori Maxwell, Kayla Beck, Emily Denham, Taylor Day, Katie Whitaker Godwin, Cody Whitaker, and Brantly Whitaker; her great-great grandchildren, Kendall Godwin and Carter Godwin; her sisters-in-law, Laverne Bellville and Othell Day, both of Bainbridge, LaFane Day of Plant City, Fla., and Eula Day of Brandon, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Visiting Nurses Association, Hospice of Southwest Georgia, and Dr. Sydney Cochran for the care they provided.
