Kirkin’ of the Tartans held at Presbyterian ChurchPublished 6:11am Tuesday, August 27, 2013
An authentic air was added by the Tallahassee Bagpipe Band to the First Presbyterian Church Kirkin’ of the Tartan traditional service on Sunday. It warmed up by playing a few numbers on the church lawn before participating in the service. Other special music included oboeist Breana Gilcher, also of Tallahassee, who accompanied the chancel choir on John Rutter’s arrangement of “The Lord is My Shepherd.” The service began with the procession of the Holy Bible and the tartan flags were carried by the children of the church. The banners were loaned to the church by the Odom Genealogical Library in Moultrie. Each year the church remembers its past Scottish roots with the Kirkin celebration.
