Lorraine Humphrey Rich, 91, of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of Bainbridge, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Bainbridge, with Rev. Randy Mosely and Rev. Lynn Roberts officiating. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery with James Howard Rentz, Jr., George Parks Callan, III, Michael Ryan Powell, Winton Preston Laslie, Charles Roberts Laslie, Phillip Jordan Callan, Jaret Mark Bryan, and Gabriel James Rentz serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Prison Ministries of the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 472, Bainbridge, GA 39818.

Mrs. Rich was born Feb. 27, 1922 in Decatur County, Ga., the daughter of Reuben Donalson Humphrey and Delmo Roberts Barineau Humphrey. She graduated from Pine Hill School in Decatur County and South Georgia College in Douglas, Ga. She and her husband of 72 years, worked together for most of those years at Dixie Pines Motel, the West Bainbridge Water Works and Rich’s Casuals, which they owned and operated. A life-long Methodist, she was a past president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, led the youth ministry, and taught adult Sunday School in the First United Methodist Church. As director of South Georgia Prison Ministry, her service included teaching the gospel message in South Georgia and North Florida prisons and Youth Detention Centers, making cookies for them, training prison ministry leaders, coordinating Christmas gifts for Youth Detention Centers and sending Bibles and Christian literature to prisons and Youth Detention Centers. Growing and arranging flowers, gardening, writing short stories and prison ministry teaching materials, playing the piano and organ, and daily crossword puzzles were things she loved and enjoyed. After years of attending the events of their children and grandchildren, she was still attending the events of her great-grandchildren at the age of 91.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry David Rich, Jr.; her siblings, Corry Legette Humphrey, Robert Donalson Humphrey, and Lucille Humphrey Harrell.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice Rich Rentz and her husband, James Howard “Buddy” Rentz, of Albany, Ga., Maridel Rich Callan and her husband, George Parks Callan, II, of Colquitt, Ga., and June Rich Laslie and her husband, Winton Charles Laslie, of Quincy, Fla.; her grandchildren, James Howard Rentz, Jr. and his wife, Dawn Kotajarvi Rentz, Brandon Barineau Rentz, Sheila Marie Rentz, George Parks Callan, III and his wife, Elisha Floyd Callan, Lacey Amanda Callan, Mary Elizabeth Callan Powell and her husband, Michael Ryan Powell, Winton Preston Laslie and his wife, Candice Salo Laslie, and Charles Roberts Laslie and his wife, Jessica Bennett Laslie; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel James Rentz, Madeline Louise Rentz, Phillip Jordan Callan, George Parks Callan, IV, Ellen Marie Bryan, Jaret Mark Bryan, Callan Elizabeth Bryan, Taylor Elizabeth Powell, Michael Callan Powell, and Hunter Talmadge Laslie.
