Georgia’s sales tax holiday is this weekend

Georgia’s sales tax holiday weekend will be August 9 and August 10, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

During the sales tax holiday, the following items will be exempt:

• Clothing—Clothing (including footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item. The exemption excludes clothing accessories such as jewelry, handbags, umbrellas, eyewear, watches and watchbands. Handbags and nonprescription eyewear will still be taxed.

• School supplies—General school supplies to be used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities with a sales price of $20 or less per item. Most books are still taxable, except for children’s books, dictionaries and thesauruses, which are exempt.

• Computers—Single purchases, with a sales price of $1,000 or less, of personal computers and personal computer-related accessories. The exemption excludes cellular devices, furniture and computer-related accessories designed for recreational use. Digital cameras, CDs and DVDs and televisions are all subject to sales tax.
