During Thursday’s meeting of the Decatur County Board of Education, the board completed several personnel moves, including naming an interim principal at John Johnson Elementary School.

Tammi Godwin will serve as interim principal at JJES, beginning with the school year that starts August 2. Godwin was formerly the school’s assistant principal.

A vacancy in the JJES principal’s position was created last month when Kathy Varner was named the Decatur County school system’s Federal Programs Director, working from the central office.

To fill the position that Godwin’s promotion leaves, Jamie Ard has been named interim assistant principal at JJES. Ard most recently had taught fourth-grade reading, math, and social studies.

In other personnel moves, Karen Wilson was hired at Jones-Wheat Elementary School, Tia Holmes was hired at Potter Street Elementary School and Natalie Howard was hired at West Bainbridge Elementary School.

Four part-time teachers were hired at the New Beginnings Learning Center — Sandra Brown, Daisy Frazier, Linda Hitchcock and Nina Jackson.
