Thomas Michael (Mike) Maynard, 64, of Mouth of Wilson, Va., passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Friday, June 28, 2013.

The memorial service in Independence, Va. will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. July 2, 2013 at Rein-Sturdivant Funeral Home. There will be a visitation prior to the memorial service from 5 to 6 p.m.

The visitation for family and friends in Bainbridge, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home.

The memorial service in Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Gerald A. Little officiating. A family graveside service will follow at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery in Hopeful, Ga.

Mike was born July 5, 1948 in Atlanta, to the late Thomas and Margaret Maynard of Bainbridge, where he grew up. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1966 and Presbyterian College in 1970, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After college, he entered the U.S. Army, Field Artillery Division achieving the rank of Captain. After 7 years in the Army, he began a career in Sales and Marketing at Proctor and Gamble, Warner-Lambert, and Pfizer. He retired in 2000. He served on the Grayson County, Va. Board of Supervisors for the Wilson District for the past 7 years and 2 terms as the Chairman of the Board. Mike served on numerous other civic boards including Blue Ridge Crossroads Economic Development Authority, Carroll Grayson Galax Solid Waste Authority, Chief Local Elected Officials Consortium, Grayson County Emergency Management Director, Grayson County Planning Commission, Workforce Investment Policy Board, Wired Road Regional Broadband Authority, and Chairman of the Heartwood Marketing Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Maynard of Mouth of Wilson; his daughters, Lee Moran and her husband, Mike, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Michaela Jarrett and her husband, Bobby, of Greensboro, N.C., and Emily Gwinn and her husband, Jonathan, of Morristown, Tenn.; his five grandchildren; his sisters, Peggy Corbett and her husband, Rick, of Canton, Ga. and Suzanne Morgan and her husband, Pete, of Pensacola, Fla.; his brother, Charles Maynard of Auburn, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rugby Volunteer Rescue Squad, Rural Route 2, Mouth of Wilson, VA 24363.
