Sheppard signs with Arena League team

Bainbridge High School graduate Malcolm Sheppard signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sabercats, of the Arena Football League, on May 28.

Sheppard, who played for four years with the SEC’s Arkansas Razorbacks, played several seasons in the NFL. In 2012, he appeared in four preseason games for the Tennessee Titans. In 2011, he played in 13 games for the Titans, recording eight tackles.

In 2010, he was signed off the Houston Texans’ practice squad by the Titans, and played three games while recording five tackles. He was active for one game as a member of the Texans, after they signed him as an undrafted free agent.

While at Arkansas, Sheppard was twice named a second-team all-SEC member, in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, he compiled 33 tackles (18 solo) for the Razorbacks, including 11 for a loss, and 2.5 sacks, as the team’s captain. In 2008, he started 12 games for the Razorbacks, recording 65 tackles and leading the team with six sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss.

In Sheppard’s senior year at Bainbridge in 2005, he collected 64 tackles, 15 sacks and an interception. He is the son of Ricky and Evelyn Sheppard.
