Bainbridge’s celebration of the “National Day of Prayer” will be this Thursday, starting at noon at the Firehouse Gallery on Water Street.

This is the 62nd celebration of the special day, which is traditionally observed on the first Thursday in May. This year’s national theme is “Pray for America,” and the observance couldn’t come at a more opportune time.

In the past year, our nation has seen tragedy after tragedy, including horrifying shooting rampages in Aurora, Colo., and Newtown, Conn., as well as deadly explosions in Boston, Mass., and West, Texas. The nation is still facing tough economic times, as well.

Regardless of our faith beliefs, surely we can all agree that it is wonderful when people of a community come together to ask God to bless our nation and its people. In times of struggle, it’s important to join together even tighter.

Let’s all come together Thursday afternoon to pray for our nation.
