Services for Edgar H. Bennett, 90, of Whigham, Ga., will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Whigham. Elder Thad Marshall and Elder Jon Mizell will officiate. Interment will be in Tired Creek Cemetery, Whigham.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Broadaway, Ronnie “Buddy” Tuggle, Mike Bennett, Steve Ulmer, Tracy Bennett, Bennett Worsham, Donald Walden and Gene Jones.

Mr. Bennett was born on April 1,1923, in Cairo, Ga., to the late Russell David Bennett and Ellie Montee Harper Bennett. Mr. Bennett passed away at Bainbridge Healthcare, Inc. in Bainbridge, on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

On July 5,1946, he married Gladys Ulmer Bennett, who preceded him in death on March 18, 2006.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War Two. As a self-employed barber for over 35 years, Edgar often traveled to give haircuts to shut-ins and his friends in nursing homes. He was an avid gardener that loved to share his bounty with friends and neighbors. He loved gospel music and attended gospel sings with his wife. He had a great love for his family and he loved spending time outdoors. He was a member of Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Tammie and Jeff Worsham of Whigham, Gloria Jean and Ray Wood of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Hill and Nora Bennett of Cairo, Tarrell and Deborah Bennett of Bainbridge; grandchildren and spouses, Celeste and Dallas Burke of Bainbridge, Erin and Russ Drake of Waynesboro, Ga., Amy Bennett, Ashley Bennett, and Anna Bennett, all of Cairo, Bennett Worsham and Rebecca Worsham, both of Whigham; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Darryl Lane Bennett; his brothers, Wayne Bennett, Wiley Bennett, Blair Bennett; and his sisters, Elizabeth Tuggle and Christine Broadaway.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, % Winburn Knight, 851 Open Pond Road, Whigham, GA, 39897.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, April 19, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m.
