Bainbridge High School head football coach Jeff Littleton has made his staff appointments for the 2013 season.

Littleton, who served as defensive coordinator at Cairo High School last year, will enter his first season leading the Bearcats with eight assistant coaches. In addition to the head coaching duties, Littleton will coach the inside linebackers.

Scott Roberts, previously hired at the March 21 Decatur County Board of Education meeting, will serve as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Roberts was the offensive coordinator at Tift County High School last year.

The defensive coordinator will be Brian Hill, formerly of Cairo High School. Hill’s hire was approved at the May 18 Board of Education meeting. Hill will also coach the defensive backs.

Also approved at the May 18 meeting was Jason Whitaker, who coached at Cairo High School last year. Whitaker will be responsible for the offensive line, defensive ends, and will coordinate the special teams.

Five coaches return from last year’s Bearcat staff. Tom Wheeler will assist with the offensive line, Larry Cosby will coach running backs, and Scott Miller will coach the wide receivers.

On the defensive side of the ball, Brian McCorkle will coach the defensive tackles and Kelvin Cochran will coach outside linebackers.

“I am really excited about this group of coaches,” Littleton said. “I think we have one of the best staffs in the state. We are anxious to get started and begin working together with our young men.”

Spring practice will begin May 6 and will culminate with a spring intra-squad scrimmage on May 17 at 5 pm.

Littleton also announced the football coaches at Bainbridge Middle School. Blake Carruthers, assisted by Pat Clark and Chip Ariail, will lead the seventh-grade team.

Heith Maxwell will be the head coach of the eighth grade team and the assistant coaches will be Ell Willis and Rickey McCullough.

Marcus Singletary will coach the ninth-grade team.
