Track teams perform well at Valdosta meet

The Bainbridge High School boys and girls track teams had good showings at the Viking/Vikette Invitational held in Valdosta, Ga., on Saturday, March 30.

The boys finished fourth among 18 teams competing, while the Lady Bearcats finished eighth.

Leading the way for the Bearcats was Craig Cooper, who won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches. Cooper also placed fifth in the triple jump with a total distance of 41 feet, nine inches; and placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, three inches.

The boys’ 4-by-100 relay team of Justin Baker, Greg Cooper, Marshall Mack and Terry Lewis placed second with a time of 42.49 seconds.

The boys’ 4-by-400 relay team of Lewis, Jevante Ross, Alton Miller and Baker placed second with a time of 3:28.14.

Lewis placed third in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.14, while Mack was close behind in seventh with a time of 11.30.

Miller placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.87, and third in the 400 meters with a time of 50.24.

 

Girls’ meet

The Lady Bearcats were led by two distance runners who are also sisters: Paige and Amber Braswell.

Paige Braswell placed third in the two-mile with a time of 12:29.16, while Amber finished sixth in the event with a time of 13:29.44.

In the one-mile, Paige placed fourth in a time of 5:59.90, while Amber finished sixth in a time of 6:17.65.

Porchia Green placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.53; and also placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 49.55.

Raven Burney placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, three inches.

Daquanese Lee placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 82 feet, nine inches.

The girls’ 4-by-100 relay team of Tereka Green, Tearnee Harvin, Jasmine Price and Deandrea Green placed seventh in a time of 50.66.

The girls’ 4-by-400 relay team of Deandrea Green, Jasmine price, Raven Burney and Tereka Green placed sixth in a time of 4:25.30.

Both teams will compete at the Westover Patriot Invitational in Albany, Ga., on Friday, April 12.

Next Tuesday, the region meet preliminaries will be held in Albany and the region finals will be held April 18, also in Albany.
