The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats varsity soccer team defeated visiting Brooks County, 4-1, Tuesday night.

The Lady Cats took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, on a 12-yard shot by junior midfielder Jerilyn Jones. The goal came after several deflected shots by the Bainbridge forwards.

Jones scored again to give the Lady Cats a 2-0 lead with less than six minutes remaining in the first half. Jones’s second goal came on a close-range shot, following a corner kick by sophomore forward Jennifer Becerra.

In the second half, a Brooks County forward scored on a rebound from 4 yards out, cutting the Lady Cats’ lead in half in the 57th minute.

However, the Lady Cats scored two more goals late to put the game away.

Becerra scored on a breakaway in the 62nd minute, to give Bainbridge a 3-1 lead. A minute later, sophomore forward Longeshia Emanuel scored a goal from six yards out on the right side, for the final goal of the contest.

“We did some things well, such as our possession game and getting the ball wide,” Bainbridge coach Chip Ariail said. “But we had breakdowns on the defensive third that we have to work on.

“Overall, I was pleased with our performance and with the play and leadership of senior midfielders Caitlin Cato and Isis Crawford, and defender Amadelia Barros.”

Bainbridge’s record improved to 3-5 on the season.

On Wednesday, the junior-varsity Lady Cats topped Americus-Sumter, 4-0.

Forward Haley Thompson led the Bainbridge attack with three goals, and Honorina Barros also scored a goal. Goalkeepers Makayla Dunn and Tori Sprenkle combined for the shutout for the Lady Cats (2-3).
