The Bainbridge High School gymnastics team performed well at its opening meet in Macon, Ga., on Saturday, March 9.

Hosted by the Jones County High School team at “The Gym Nest,” there were teams from all over south Georgia in attendance at the meet. The Bainbridge team, consisting of Kay Bush, Holly Long, Allie Deal, Emily Perkins and Haylie Wilkinson, competed in all four events, with only the top three scores counting toward the team’s overall score.

Bainbridge swept the top three in the vault, with Wilkinson placing third, Bush placing second and Perkins placing first. In the beam, Perkins was second and Wilkinson finished in first place.

On the uneven bars, Bush placed third and Perkins placed first. Perkins also placed first in the floor exercise. In the all-around competition, Wilkinson took third place and Perkins finished in first place.

The team’s strong individual performances allowed them to finish first overall in the team scoring competition as well.

Bainbridge’s next meet was scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, in Thomasville, Ga.
