Lowndes County wins Bearcats Invitational

The Lowndes County High School Vikings shot a round of 317 at Bainbridge Country Club on Saturday, to top a nine-team field and win the annual Bainbridge High School Bearcats Invitational Golf Tournament.
They were led by Bryant Thagard, with a round of 75 (3-over-par). Behind him were Tripp Talley with a 76, Cole Young with an 80 and Clay Peters with an 86.
The low medalist for the day was Liwkas Alakulppi of Valdosta, with a 2-under-par round of 70.
Lee County placed second, with a round of 324, and Northside-Columbus was third, with a round of 332.
Bainbridge freshman Matthew Green was the low medalist for the Bearcats, finishing with a round of 74. The Bearcats shot 342 as a team.
“Although he is just a freshman, Matthew Green is really concentrating and playing well,” Bainbridge golf coach Tom Wheeler said.
Behind Green on the Bearcats’ score card were Turner Greene and Kyle Horne, with rounds of 87, and Brendon Greene, with a round of 94.
The Bearcats returned to action Tuesday when they hosted the Cairo High School Syrupmakers at Bainbridge Country Club.
They will travel to Grand Island Country Club in Albany, Ga., on Monday to play in the Lee County Invitational Tournament.
