The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team came up on the short end in two contests, but was able to pick up its second win of the year, out of the three games played last week.
On Wednesday, Bainbridge played in Cairo and lost 10-0 to the Syrupmaids at West Thomas Stadium. Cairo jumped out to a 6-0 halftime lead.
“Against Cairo, we did not play well the first half, as we failed to pressure the ball,” Bainbridge coach Chip Ariail said. “In the second half, we made critical errors in the penalty area that led to goals.”
The Lady Cats travelled to Albany, Ga., on Friday, and defeated the Monroe High School Lady Tornadoes, 4-0.
Bainbridge scored quickly in the fourth minute as senior midfielder Asia Irving took a pass from sophomore midfielder Jennifer Beccera and finished a shot from six yards out to give the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.
In the 21st minute, sophomore midfielder Longeisha Emanuel intercepted a pass and scored for the second goal, giving Bainbridge a 2-0 halftime lead. Becerra scored on a breakaway in the 47th minute and Irving added a goal in the 64th minute to give the Lady Cats the victory.
“We played better against Monroe, creating many chances, but we have to get more efficient in our finishing stage,” Ariail said.
Bainbridge fell to visiting Westover on Saturday, 7-0.
The Lady Cats (2-3) will open region play by hosting Lee County tonight, and will travel to Northside-Columbus on Friday for a region game.
On Wednesday, the Lady Cats’ JV team came up on the short end of a 4-1 score to the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs, at Centennial Field. Bainbridge midfielder Summer Boyd converted a penalty kick for the Lady Cats’ lone goal.
