Homer LeRoy Dukes, 87, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Larry Harrell officiating and will conclude at the chapel. Interment will be at Brinson Cemetery with Mickey McLendon, Gerald Godby, Rex “Buck” Powell, Robby Moran, Harry Turner, and Roy Dukes serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013, prior to the funeral service at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mr. Dukes was born April 26, 1925 in Daleville, Ala., the son of James Hardy Dukes and Jennie Rebecca Grant Dukes. He served in the United States Navy and was an electrician with Gossett Electric Company. Mr. Dukes also worked as a carrier for the Post Searchlight.

Mr. Dukes was preceded in death by his wife, Abbie Sue Harrell Green Dukes; his daughter, Martha Ann Gable; his brothers, Douglas Theo Dukes and James Dukes.

Survivors include his sons, Larry Dukes and his wife, Lena, of Hinesville, Ga. and Randall Green and his wife, Millie, of Moultrie, Ga.; his daughters, Linda O’Connor of Tavares, Fla., Amanda Godby and her husband, Gerald, of Brinson, Patricia Thomason and her husband, Robby Moran, of Bainbridge, and Glenda Green Cross and her husband, Billy, of Bainbridge; his brothers, Curtis Dukes and his wife, Margot, of Columbus, Ga., Melvin Dukes and his wife, Joanne, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Paul Dukes of Damascus, Ga.; his sister, Flossie Nix of Perry, Fla.; his nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
