Central downs Lady Cats, 42-34

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team dropped a 42-34 Region 1-AAAAA decision to the visiting Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets on Tuesday.

They will travel to Leeesburg on Tuesday, where they will take on the Lee County High School Lady Trojans in a Region 1-AAAAA Tournament play-in game,

The winner will advance to the region tournament, which will be held Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16, at BHS.

The Lady Cats, who are 3-7 in Region 1-AAAAA play, took a 7-15 overall record into Friday’s road game with the Cairo High School Syrupmaids.

They will conclude the regular season with a home game against the Seminole County High School Lady Indians tonight.

Point guard Beonka Madge, who just recently returned from a hand injury, hit a field goal with 50 seconds remaining in the second quarter Tuesday, to pull the Lady Cats to within 19-16 at halftime.

The Lady Yellow Jackets outscored the Lady Cats 12-8 in the third quarter to go up 31-24 entering the fourth quarter.

Madge led the Lady Cats in scoring with eight points. Guard Alex Carter scored six.

Erica Harvy of the Lady Yellow Jackets took game-scoring honors with 12.

Bainbridge coach Kelvin Cochran said that while he thought his team did some good things, they committed too many turnovers.

“To many of our passes were off the mark,” he said. “We even had trouble throwing the ball in bounds.”
