Floyd’s team wins championship

Carole Floyd’s Bainbridge 8.5-rated senior women’s tennis team won first place in the Georgia Senior Combo Doubles Championship, Friday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, Nov. 11, in Peachtree City, Ga.

In their first match against Atlanta they won 3-0, as the team of Myrvin Fain and Janel McGinley won 7-5, 6-1, the team of Carole Floyd and Maria Long won 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 and the team of Susan Till and Karen Vogter won 2-6, 6-4, 1-0.

They won 2-1 in their second match against Peachtree City. Saturday morning against Columbus, they also won 2-1 as the team of Cathy Johnson and Margaret Stephens lost 2-6, 1-6, Fain and McGinley won 6-2, 6-0 and Floyd and Long won 6-0, 3-6, 1-0.

Bainbridge also won 2-1 in their fourth match against Mountain as Fain and McGinley won 6-4, 6-3, Till and Stephens won 6-4, 6-3 and Floyd and Johnson lost 4-6, 3-6.

The Bainbridge team won 3-0 in their final match against Athens/Oconee. Fain and McGinley won 6-4, 6-0, Till and Stephens won 7-5, 6-3 and Floyd and Long won 6-1, 6-2.
