Make realistic resolutions

It’s the start of another new year, and that means the return of new year’s resolutions. No doubt many of you will be making a resolution this year, but it is far too easy to decide one that is far too unrealistic. Losing 100 pounds of body weight might not only be unrealistic, but also unhealthy. It’s also not likely you’ll be able to save up enough money to buy a new house in just one year …

If you feel like your resolution might be too optimistic, consider making a smaller resolution that helps out closer to home. Resolve to give just a little money to a local charity every month, or make a resolution to see a performance of the Bainbridge Little Theatre, Decatur County Ballet Company or similar local group, this year. Consider making a resolution to say “hello” to a person on the street every day, or to pick up a piece of litter when you see it.

These resolutions are not only easier to maintain, but they also have the added bonus of helping to make our community an even better place to live. We wish you the best in this new year of 2013, and let’s all resolve to make it the best year yet!
