Seventh-grade teams sweep Whigham

The Bainbridge Middle School seventh-grade Lady Cats and Bearcats basketball teams posted victories over the Whigham Middle School Lady Indians and Indians, on Wednesday, in Whigham, Ga.

Coach Emi McCullough’s Lady Cats moved their record to 2-0 with a 25-16 victory over the Lady Indians. Coach Patrick Clark’s Bearcats evened their record at 1-1, with a 38-37 overtime victory over the Indians.

Leading scores for the Lady Cats on Wednesday were Chelsea Hall and Kiarri King, with seven points apiece. Chatria Jones added five, Tyra Smart put in four and Jasmine Rainey scored two.

James Dismuke, who led the Bearcats in scoring with 17 points, hit the winning free throw in overtime. The score was tied 37-37 at the end of regulation. Dismuke’s three-point attempt at the end of regulation just rimmed out.

Behind Dismuke in the Bearcats’ scoring chart were Desmond Thomas with seven, Kendall Lodman with six, Brandon Davis with four, Timothy Porter with three and Malique Pate and Zion Weston with one apiece.

The seventh-grade Lady Cats and Bearcats will return to action next Thursday, Nov. 15, when they take on the Thomas County Middle School seventh-grade Yellow Jackets and Lady Yellow Jackets on the road.

The girls game will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the boys game will follow.
