The Dothan (Ala.) High School Tigers, the Bainbridge High School Bearcats’ opponent on senior night Friday at 8 p.m. at Centennial Field, feature a wide-open offense.

In their most recent game last Friday night, the Tigers made a strong comeback before losing 34-29 to Foley (Ala.).

They were trailing 26-7 in the third quarter, when senior defensive back Kamryn Melton, who has verbally committed to sign with Auburn, returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown to cut the Foley lead to 26-14.

The Tigers enter Friday night’s game with a 6-3 record, while the Bearcats come in with a record of 5-3.

Senior quarterback Diantae Thomas, who engineers the Dothan offense, has impressed Bainbridge head coach Ed  Pilcher.

“We have watched the Dothan quarterback on film and he is an outstanding athlete,” Pilcher said. “He is a strong runner and passer, so our defense will have to be ready for anything.”

Dothan also has a pair of strong running backs, in junior Jeremie Saffold and junior Alex Cochran.

“Dothan has a lot of team speed,” Pilcher said. “Their offense is well-balanced between the pass and the run. They are probably the fastest and most talented team we have played this year.

“They run the same kind of wide-open offense that we will face in our final regular season and Region 1-AAAAA game against Lee County, the following week, so it should be a good tune-up for us.

“When we play Lee County, it will be for the third- and fourth-place region playoff berths. We will have to meet the challenge and get after Dothan and Lee County.”
