Last week of early voting under way

Early voting for the Nov. 6 general and presidential elections is continuing at the Decatur County Fairgrounds.

By the end of Monday, a total of 3,746 citizens had cast their ballots during early voting at the Fairgrounds, according to Chief of Elections Doris White.

There were 358 voters who cast their ballots early this past Saturday, White said.

A total of 626 paper ballots have been mailed; 432 of those had been returned and approved as of Monday, said Clerk of Registration Peggy Richardson.

The last week of early voting before the election will be conducted between Oct. 29 and Nov. 2, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., again at the Fairgrounds.

The physical address of the early voting location is 1211 Vada Road.

On Election Day, Nov. 6, all county polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Voters will need to show photo ID

Georgia law requires Georgia residents to show photo identification when voting in person.

The IDs acceptable are the following: Any valid state or federal government photo ID, including a free voter ID card issued by the Decatur County registrar’s office located at the Courthouse Annex at the corner of Water and Crawford streets or the Georgia Department of Driver Services; a Georgia driver’s license, even if expired; valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state; valid U.S. passport ID; valid U.S. military photo ID; and valid tribal photo ID.

Citizens who want to check their voter registration status, locate where they vote, look at a sample ballot and find out more voting-related information can visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s “My Voter Page” at www.sos.ga.gov/mvp. To use the site, voters just need to enter their name, county of registration and their birthday.
