Politics shouldn’t get violent

Once again, a presidential campaign season is nearing the home stretch. The polls seem to suggest that it will be a close race between Democratic president Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

Perhaps it is no surprise that politics has a way of making tempers arise. Just this past week, vandals in Florida burned an Army veteran’s Republican signs. Also, the son of a Wisconsin state senator claimed that he was attacked and beaten up, because he was placing a Mitt Romney yard sign. There is no doubt that there are many other stories like this that go unreported, from both sides of the political spectrum.

We hope that no stories like this will take place here in Decatur County. We can disagree with each other politically, but let’s not let those disagreements escalate into violence or abuse.
