Four-year programs would be great for BC

Bainbridge College could soon offer four-year programs, and we believe this would be a great thing for our community.

Bainbridge College President Dr. Richard Carvajal said that the University System of Georgia Board of Regents will meet in January 2013, to consider whether to officially move Bainbridge College to “state status.” This would allow the institution to award a limited number of baccalaureate (four-year) degrees, focused on the economic development needs of our region.

If the Board of Regents approves the move, BC could be ready to enroll its first class into a bachelor’s degree in management program by fall 2013.

Education is always important, but it is especially key in times of economic downturn. By offering four-year degrees, BC will serve a necessary role in our area, helping to improve the future of our community for years to come. We hope that the Board of Regents votes to give BC full “state status.”
