Bainbridge Girl Scout Troop 40307 learned the proper way to retire worn flags, at a ceremony held at Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society Lodge Hall on Thursday evening, Oct. 11.

GSA Troop Leader Beth Mithen brought 10 of her young girl scouts to be guests of the Woodmen Lodge. Following dinner, everyone went outside to view the burning of approximately 50 flags that needed to be replaced.

Ron Kirkland, area manager of Woodmen of the World, said his society has donated most of the flags flown at community sites, including schools and the YMCA. When the flags reach a certain stage of deterioration, they are turned in to Woodmen for proper disposal.
