A dozen or so budding young artists gather after school on Thursdays to learn and practice some basic drawing and shaping exercises.

Last week the class had fun making modeling clay jack-o-lanterns, trees, and other objects.

This week they were doing drawing exercises, learning about combining lines and shapes to create forms. They practiced drawing a four-legged stool, no easy task, as it relates to a matter of perspective.

Some of the more advanced students were those who had attended art camp in the summer, where they learned to draw fish, among other subjects.

The classes are taught by Pamela Cross and Carol Bolton on Thursdays, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the upstairs classrooms at the Firehouse Gallery.
