Yellow Jackets edge 8th grade Bearcats 28-22

The Thomas County Central Middle School eighth grade Yellow Jackets scored a late fourth quarter touchdown to pull out a 28-22 Thursday victory over the Bainbridge Middle School eighth grade Bearcats at Thomas County Stadium.
The  Yellow Jackets quarterback ran in from two yards out but the Bearcats came in to stop him short on an attempted two point conversion run.
The game was a defensive struggle in the first half which ended with the Yellow Jackets out front 6-0.
The only first half score came on a 10-yard touchdown run around the right side by the Yellow Jackets quarterback. A two point conversion attempt was stopped short.
The Bearcats drove down to the Yellow Jackets 10-yard line in the second quarter before being stopped short.
Early in the third quarter a Yellow Jackets running back broke lose up the middle and ran 80 yards for a touchdown to put his team up 12-0. He then ran in for the two point conversion to increase the home team’s lead to 14-0.
The Bearcats started their strong comeback on a 50-yard third quarter touchdown run by running back Kerenski Williams. The Yellow Jackets stopped them short on the two point conversion run leaving the score 14-6.
The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 20-6 when Williams ran 50 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion try was no good.
Running back Dalvin Spivey cut the lead to  20-12 when he ran 20 yards for a third quarter touchdown. Williams ran in for the two point conversion to make it 20-14.
The Bearcats took a 22-20 lead when Williams ran 10 yards for a touchdown and ran in for the two point conversion.
Williams was stopped short on the two point conversion attempt.
The eighth grade Bearcats, who are 1-3 for the season, will return to action next Thursday, October 4 when they take on the Douglas Middle School eighth grade Bulldogs at 5 p.m. at Thomasville’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
